Why I Chose Be An Affiliate Marketer

How to Learn Affiliate Marketing 101

You may have never heard of the term affiliate marketer before or have just learned about it.

Just exactly what is it?

Is it something for me?

Can I learn affiliate marketing?

These are all questions I asked myself four years ago.

You see, I was in some financial trouble. Not anything real serious but I needed to make a little more each month than I was making at the time.

I see more and more people in this situation. Maybe you are in the same situation.

I had a job, but I was just living from paycheck to paycheck. At the end of each month I would have to use my credit cards to cover what I was unable to pay.

Affiliate marketing appealed to me because I could work from home on using my computer and Internet connection. I would be promoting someone else product and earning commissions.

Being my own boss, my schedule and the flexibility to work from any place was what I found appealing. Plus it wouldn’t interfere with my present job.

This was how I started on this adventure. I didn’t know how I was going to accomplish this, I just knew I had the drive and motivation to figure it out.

Things were very slow for me for the first year and a half. I researched and read everything I could find on the subject. I figured I could do this using all the little “free” courses you see online, but these always left me hungering for more.

I did experiment building a website and promoting some Clickbank products but nothing really came from it.

I started looking at maybe taking some actual courses to learn affiliate marketing. And I was willing to pay for the information now.

I tried two, and though I learn a whole lot more and started to make a sale now and then I was still not getting the results I desired.

I had heard about Wealthy Affiliate University but had avoided it because it was a membership site and I just didn’t need another monthly expense. But one thing I noticed, I could never find any negative feedback about it. I thought this was rather unusual and so I decided to give it a try for one month.

This was October of 2007

I was hooked and have been a happy member of Wealthy Affiliate University every since.

Everything you need to learn affiliate marketing including all the tools and resources are all in one place. But the real kicker for me was the ability to talk to and learn from all the other members.

With well over 10,000 members, I could get any question answered that I asked. Now the membership is even larger. It is the “facebook” of affiliate marketers.

I have learned how to write articles (article marketing) PPC, SEO, build a website (I now have over 25!) and also how to research and find profitable niches. I have even created some tutorials on the site for others to learn from.

Am I making any money?

Well Yes… not allot but it is consistent and growing.

It is a lot of work.
It is not a “get rich quick” scheme.
But it does work if you stick with it.

The thing I like the most about affiliate marketing is I constantly get paid for work I did months ago. Once things are set up very little maintenance is required and you have a permanent stream of income.

Each little site I have is like a little trickle of income and they all combine into a river. I hope to keep building on this and create an ocean one day! lol…
